Dragons

Dragons are large and powerful, physically and magically. They are connected to one of the major elements, experts at Thaumaturgy, and their caves count as sanctified spaces making an attack on one a very risky proposition; especially in its lair! Dragons accumulate a large horde over time which they loan out portions of in return for interest and also grow their horde by protecting areas in return for a tithe. Locals have learned to offer up food as well as gold in tithes as a well fed and fat dragon is a happy one, and less likely to disrupt things when its not hunting.
Locals often use a dragon as a banker, where the dragon takes a small fee to protect the towns money and will hunt down would be bank robbers.  This has been found to be very good for both parties as keeping up effective security on a towns bank can be very expensive.
A small contingent of dwarven, human or reptilian guards, along with book keepers, and other staff is typical.
Breath Weapons are statted up in Daydreams of a Dragon for possible PCs.

Commonwealth Dragons

Using the info from GURPS Dungeon Fantasy Monsters 4: Dragons as a starting point the dragons in the Commonwealth can be statted as follows.
  • Small Dragon (SM +3; IQ 12): Possibly helps a village, but usually they tend to roam near their parents.
  • Medium Dragon (SM +4; IQ 14): Usually a banker for a town. Hoard value, $200,000 to $2 million (FP 70 to 115)
  • Large Dragon (SM +5; IQ 16): Usually a banker for a town or city. Hoard value, $200,000 to $20 million (FP 70 to FP 200+)
  • Gargantuan Dragons (SM +6; IQ 18): The bankers of the larger cities or capitals. They also may retire to a life of solitude and study or meditation. Hoard value, at least $1 million.
  • Grand Dragons (SM 7+; IQ 18+): One guards each capital elemental city, and a few others are scattered around. Hoard value, priceless! Also each has a well fed mana basin to draw upon.
  • Dragon Magic: Dragons tend to focus on their element but can learn all the others as well. They also are adept at dream magic which they use to communicate and pass the time.

The majority of the local dragons are metal, with more water or fire near the respective lands and earth and wood dragons tend to protect the smaller and more inland towns where farming and forestry are the major income.
