Power Sources for Game of Powers

Power Sources

There are several known power sets in the setting, with the exception of Training they are all exclusive of each other.
Some examples from the comics as they best fit into these sources.

Chi

-10%
Extreme martial arts training sometimes lets one tap into special resources and use ones own life force or ambient life energy to achieve amazing effects.  Typically these powers are physically exhausting and require special meditation and diet to maintain their reserves and powers. This pretty much works as in already published works.

Energy Shells

-15%
Your body generates energy that can be used for various effects.
This typically appears around puberty and the mind of the host determines the nature of how these abilities act. Over time powers tend to increase and get more refined but the general effect remains the same. Known examples include forcefields, energy projection, flight, and energy manipulation.
Typically its limited to a specific category of energy such as heat, light, magnetism, etc However some have less obvious specialties such as vibration energy or ability to draw off heat and thus create extreme cold. The energy shell that infuses the supers body can be detected with specialized machinery invented in the 80s and is fairly commonly installed in high value buildings such as banks and government buildings. There are technical countermeasures for these powers that work by disrupting the mental connection. Likewise beings with this power modifier can learn to disrupt opponents powers, temporarily disabling them.
Sensors can be handheld (very expensive) but are typically wall mounted or at entrances, similar to metal detectors. Countermeasures are made that fit around the head or neck, as well as wall mounted for prisons and secure buildings and are short range.
Statistics: (Nuisance, detectable, -5%; Technical and Power based countermeasures, -10%) -15%.
Note: Energy Shell powers may make use of Godlike Extra Effort. Other power sources cannot without specific permission and an advantage such as Ultrapower.

Power Seeds

This power source evolves a living being, making them better in physical or mental capabilities. Example powers tend to include enhanced durability and various physical abilities but many also have enhanced minds, including some mental powers.
Your power comes from an unusual seed that can be eaten (watermelon seed) or inherited from the maternal side.  This makes these the most common source of powers and seeds have been sold on the blackmarket for immense sums. These seeds will not grow in soil so the origin is unknown and a source of speculation (Government and Alien conspiracies abound) but they have been found in rural areas all over the world. In some cases animals have been empowered from these seeds but thankfully once ingested and merged with the host they cannot be passed along by eating the host.  Otherwise we would see a lot more super powered predators!

Drugs can sometimes counter the effects but typically have to be individually tailored to the subjects DNA so are more expensive and less effective than say tranquilizers. Detection is possible but requires a DNA test so no discount for countermeasures.

Reality Shards

+50%
Among the rarest and least understood are those who get their power from what has been called contact with a reality shard. They create a kind of invisible bubble that imposes a different reality on our own and often have different operating laws of physics.
Many who encounter these shards die, others are driven insane but a few notable exceptions have been observed.
Statistics: Cosmic, +50% and often Weird. -10%

Totems

-10%
It is believed these are mystical powers and they can be gained through esoteric means and training. However some just seem to get them out of nowhere.  These supers relate to the animal or other spirit type (Including Jungian Archetypes) so are seen as more predictable and protective by the public and hence popular.
Totems are hard to detect and countermeasures vary in effectiveness. A Totem user can sometimes counter another Totem bearers power but usually only for a few seconds.

Trained

Varies
These include advanced and special training, including concentration tricks like Savant, -10%.
Typically government or elite private organizations.

Not in the Setting

Aliens (officially, though rumors abound),

Summary

Chi is pretty much the same as in DF
Energy Shells is a lot like mutant powers in Marvel and easy to detect and counter in the setting. On the other hand they tend to be the most flashy and powerful abilities in the setting.
Power Seeds can be detected by DNA tests, though many are obvious to the naked eyes (toughened skin, extra arms, wings, etc). So it can be obvious (Beast, Angel, NightCrawler) or inobvious like wolverine.
Reality Shards are potentially powerful and almost impossible to counter (mostly by other Reality Shard people) but that +50% modifier makes them expensive.
Totems are fairly common and tend to be animal or elemental and nature types. No technical means to sense or counter them.
Trained is what it says on the tin but can include natural born like say Sherlock Holmes, athletes, etc.

Power Shells and Power Seeds are the most common and flashy, Totems probably next and most cant be spotted unless using their powers.
Chi and Trained require extraordinary effort in most cases so are more rare.
Reality Shards are by far the least common type.
