Soul Broker

This is an unusual ability possessed by some spirits, noble fae and vampires of the Midas bloodline. Its based on the article How Very Tempting, Pyramid #3/67 Tools of the Trade: Villains. It is related to the Corruption mechanics in GURPS Horror and especially the rules in GURPS Power-Ups: Impulse Buys.

Soul Broker [10] is an unusual background that allows someone to deal in souls.
Damnation Level [-5/level] (max 10.
Soul Value: (25 + Purity Level - Impurity Level) *2; minimum 5 points.
Souls regenerate 1 pt per week of complete relaxation.
Impurity Level
Total the absolute value of "bad" disadvantages.
Purity Level
Total the absolute value of "good" disadvantages.
Also add in Blessed, Destiny, Luck, Oracle, Power Investiture, and Serendipity.

Things to Sell Soul Points For

Note, the buyer of the soul must have the ability to grant these but here are typical things and the value (before contract modifiers).
  • Money: $2,000 per soul point.
  • Buying off or swapping disadvantages, costs 1 soul point per character point with a minimum of 1 point.
  • Adding, buying up or modifying advantages and skills. Costs 1 soul point per character point.
  • A pool of 25 FP, used as desired or replenishing most Energy Reserves and vampiric Blood Pools.
  • Options in Impulse Buys that the souls buyer can grant or implement.

Things the Soul Buyer Can Use Them For

Souls represent a powerful form of supernatural energy and can be used for a variety of things.
  • Set aside as a FP pool or used to replenish Energy Reserves, Blood Pools, or power abilities.
  • Soul or character point powered abilities (see Impulse Buys for some ideas). These abilities have their cost divided by 5.

Example Abilities

Grant Wish: This is an example basic ability to grant a wish that can grant an advantage or disadvantage (or replace them) and is powered by the soul buyer who uses a soul point each time. This is an example of the basic level and powerful soul brokers will have this ability at higher levels. Statistics: Affliction (IQ, Grants 1 point in advantages or 10 points in disadvantages; Variable Enhancement, +100%; Costs Soul Points) [4]. The granted ability only lasts a minute per MOS but can be made permanent if the subject expends soul points to pay for it before it expires.
